"Hannibal, Missouri area...."

I am curious if there is a support group for herpes in my area. While I am adjusting to the fact I have HSV2, I still feel like I am "somewhat" alone here in my rural community.

Is there a place I can go to find a support group for my area online??

Thanks

in the larger cities. I'm not too far from you in Springfield, IL and there's no support group even in that size city that's a state capital. In absence of a real life support group, please feel free to take advantage of our support forum.

   H2M-

Remind yourself...if you live in an area with more than four women, statistically, one has HSV2! If there are more than five men, at least one has HSV2! And...more than half of the adults surrounding you have HSV1!

You know you're not the only HSV+ person in Hannibal, right?! (Since Hannibal was the home of Mark Twain...I wonder if he had herpes?! Hmm...how about Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer? ).

Here's a link to Missouri herpes support groups. You may wish to contact one of them...someone may be able to direct you to people in your area.

Wow! I cannot believe there are no support groups in Spingfield IL!! I'm not surprised about Hannibal, as we are a small town.

I am here on the boards a lot and I do have to say everyone here has made me feel a lot better about my situation thru replies and PMs. I have learned a lot here and will continue to be a part here.

Hope all had a wonderful 4th!!

I don't know where Hannibal is, geographically, but here is a list of the HELP groups in MO -

I'm surprised that there are none in St. Louis, but there doesn't appear to be any and that's not really close either. When I was first diagnosed, I asked the dermatologist if there was a support group and he said that he wasn't aware of any. I did more research and he was right, somewhat to my surprise. Then I found this place in early 1998. It's tough to get an IRL group going because the anonymity of the web isn't there. You actually are face to face with other people. It's sorta feels like AA, "Hi, I"m Rajah and I have herpes."

That is true...LOL...funny about AA. I do agree about the anonymity here. I am glad I found this place too, everyone is wonderful.

Thanks for the list Jessie, I appreciate it.

I did find an outdated site that had a St. Louis group listed, but since its not on the current ASHA page, my guess is that it disbanded.

Greetings up there in Marion Co! I'm south of St. Louis and I suppose there just isn't any support groups near. I see Rajah is sort of 'close'.

Just toss out there for the heck of it .. Mark Twain & I are related. Granted it's very distant but we do share some relatives.

LuAnn

That's neat that you do! I haven't found any support groups near that I have heard of. Thanks for saying Hello! As far as I know I am still the only one in Hannibal with Herpes....LOL

There is one now! St Louis H Club was created back in September. It's an online social and support group for people in and around the St. Louis area. Occasionally members organize social events too. We just switched over to a new message board format, so it looks a little empty right now, but new members are joining every week. Wish I had thought to post something about it on here earlier! I hope you will join us! www.stlouishclub.com
