"1 year and it still sucks"
Hey all, so it's been just about one year since I've tested positive for genital herpes. I try every day to get over it and yet it still kills me that I have it. Met a really great guy, after a few weeks of dating I told him that I have it, he claimed it didn't matter and not much longer stopped calling. I only have one friend who knows I have it, I can't imagine telling my family or my closet girlfriends my secret. I read all the one in four statistics but don't see how Ill ever find someone when I don't even want to admit it to myself. Not that I'm not careful, haven't had any sexual contact besides some making out which is probably why this is hitting me so hard lol. Ugh just found this site and wanted to vent. Please someone tell me it gets better and that ill find someone who cares enough about me to not care.....

Almost 27 and lonely

I was younger than you when I found out I have HSVII and I have had this for well over 20 plus plus plus years. This DOES get better than what you are feeling now.

Fitst of all, you do not need to tell anyone that you have HSV unless you want to OTHER than your doctor (who needs to treat you) and any potential partners. Sharing your information with a potential partner is best done in a discussion style rather than a confession style. Yes, you read the 1 in 4 stats so you know how common this is and that someone can have this and not know it therby passing it on so it is good to know the status of your partner.

Over this time, I have been engaged 4 times--twice to men that also have HSVII. These relationships ended due to non HSV issues, so I did find love. Putting HSV aside I was able to focus on the other things that make a relationship important and you should be able to also.

In time you will discover that this virus is just a pest at best for the most of us compared to the other things that life will throw at you.
