"I had a healthy baby!"

I posted a lot on here during my pregnancy, worrying about viral shedding, outbreaks, etc.

Well I wanted to post and say that I had a healthy baby by via a vaginal birth a little over a month ago!

When I checked into the hospital, the resident examined me with a special light and gave the all clear for a vaginal birth. I was still a little nervous, but the delivery went well.

My baby's first night he had trouble regulating his temp. The baby nurse told me "it could be a sign of infection"...of course I became frantic it was HSV, but she said it was highly unlikely given I had no visible sores at delivery.

Fortunately it just ended up being the baby regulating his temperature which is so common those first few hours.

He's healthy and happy and I'm so glad I was able to deliver vaginally! Thank you for all the support.

Did you take antiviral like Acyclovir during your pregnancy? I am 36 weeks pregnant and i am so worry during the labor, still have no idea will do vaginal or c-section, My OBGYN prescribed me with Acyclovir 400 mg 1x a day. But i haven't started yet, cause i am so afraid with the possible side effect that could harm my fetus. Also still not sure with vaginal birth in case i will have an asymptomptic HSV during labor. Please share your experience, that would be so helpful to me. ANd how is your baby now?

Your provider prescribed you the wrong dose of acyclovir. It should be 400mg 3x/day for the rest of your pregnancy.

there are no known side effects to the baby from you taking daily suppressive therapy in the pregnancy doses.

If you don't have an obvious lesion at the time of delivery, the risk of transmission of herpes to your baby is less than 1% whether you take herpes antivirals or not.
