"Maybe I'm being ridiculous..."

I have recently been thinking about children and my disease. It seems to me that if I am with a partner who does not have herpes that conceiving a child would mean my partner not using a condom, and thus risking contracting the disease in order to impregnate. Is this absolutely ridiculous?

Taking antivirals decreases the risk enough that most people aren't that concerned. If you're thinking about having a child with another person, hopefully you're in this for the long haul and something like a cold sore maybe just isn't that big of a deal.

People also make a pinprick in a condom to keep most of the skin covered and still allow the sperm to swim around and do their business.

I've been married for 30 years to someone who isn't concerned about getting herpes from me. He's still asymptomatic...never been tested and we have two healthy grown up children. I've never taken antivirals.

the risk of transmission is in general low even if you only just avoid sex during obvious symptoms. the risk differs according to gender. you can take daily suppressive therapy while trying to conceive too.

The first step in stopping the perceived stigma about genital herpes - is to stop believing in it yourself
