"How's the relationship?"

I wanted to ask how has everything been going w/ the relationship for those who are using suppresive meds to keep negative partners protected from catching hsv?

I know there will ALWAYS be that risk but for those who are using the meds has your negative partner been tested and how long has you been in the relationship while on suppresive meds?

I see post about wanting to keep their partners from catching it and everyone gives good advise but the person never comes back to the boards to say how it's going except for... Spartin

Guess it's just not that important to my bf whether he gets it or not. We've been together almost two years and he has never mentioned getting tested again. He was tested before we started our sexual relationship and found to his surprise that he was positive for HSVI. I use acyclovir but we don't use condoms. Of course, lately there hasn't been much sex as he had a heart attack 1 1/2 months ago. And we are aging and our emotional relationship and just living together seems to be more important than just sex. We are thankful that we each have someone to share life's curve balls and to grow old together.

I am so sorry to hear about the heart attacks. There are truly more things to worry about then HSV.

"We are thankful that we each have someone to share life's curve balls and to grow old together."

I LOVE IT!

I just registered and I was skiming through the site and saw your question. I would like to know some answers also about relationships as my wife has herpes and I do not. But she doesn't want sex anymore as she "will not be responsibel for giving it to you" (me)...quoted! So I would interested in what happens when people are married and this condition appears years later and claimed that it was from previous sexual partners.

If your negative and you two have been married for years prior to your wife discovering she has HSV, then YES it's possible for couples to live a nice long happy life where only ONE has the virus.

Females positive to negative males:
4% risk a year if you do nothing but avoid sex while having an OB (outbreak)
2% risk a year if your using condoms or only using antiviral meds daily
1% risk a year if you use BOTH condoms and taking antiviral meds.

The risk are low but since it's not 0% there's always a chance you can catch the virus.

That's such a small risk compared to what we face EVERYDAY walking outside of our homes. I hear a lot of people compare the stats to a female getting pregnant while taking the pill.

I read your response. My question is....is this documented.... actual.... real information and where does it come from. Sorry to question you but my spouse (wife) would be very skeptical. I'm just fried/tired of no sexual contact and I am trying to determine, even though she has this condition if this is a excuse to avoid intimacy. Since I am new to this site I am not sure if anyone has ever encounted or had a situation similar to mine.

I've been on this site for awhile but I'd rather one of the member's who actually knows the actually fact and studied it to answer.

There are links to a lot of different websites that provide most of the answers your looking for on the homepage.

The stats mentioned above came from the valtrex study.

One of the teckies here might be able to pin point where in the study this information can be found.

Has your wife ever seen a Valtrex commercial where it talks about one person being negative and the other not and taking Valtrex is thier way of keeping it that way?

There have been Valtrex ads on TV but I have never seen one that is this specific.
Iowa is such a conservative state so I even wonder if the 20% infection rate would be that high here and so the advertising may not be that directed/specific to upset these conservative. PS I'm not a native!

Yes she has taken Valtrex but I think she only uses it when she has an outbreak. You see she is a private person and I know that finding out that she had this virus was just devastation to her to to the utmost degree. I have read Terri Warrens book only last week and trying to educate myself.

In the absence of qualified information that peopele can have a sexual life I have no where to go on this issue in this marriage. Thank you for any information you or others can provide.

My wife takes Valtrex daily. Has bad ob's quickly if she doesn't.

We've been sexual for 3 years now and I haven't had any symptoms, and we're very active. Well, I'm very active as she watches Oprah.
