"Chronic symptoms"

Hi it's been almost 5 months since my initial OB, not yet official diagnosed. Had all the symptoms tingling, burning, itching ...sciatica nerve pain. Most symptoms have gone at least in intensity, but what still remains is nerve pains the sciatica type that start in buttock and go down back of thigh, along with constant low grade burn in urethra, itching in left testicle and soreness in groin.

Was wondering if anyone experienced this with their outbreak, how long it lasted and what measures/treatment you took. I take cymbalta, aleve and suppressive famvir daily along with the natural stuff lysine etc... Keeps symptoms down but still hinders daily activity. Pursuing other avenues with my ID and neuro doc but since all this started after a sexual incident seems herpes could be the cause. I've read here others having similar symptoms that lasted their first year.

   Hi Matt,
I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. I encourage you to read more of the posts on this sight and you will see a lot of people complaining of the same symptoms. The majority of my posts are under the screen name Scooter. A lot of people have shared really good information.

My blood barely registered antibodies when I first contracted the virus 5 years ago. Without a definitive herpes diagnosis I would stay open to other insults that may be causing your pain. If you did in fact contract the virus after that sexual encounter the antibodies will eventually show up.

You're doing the right things. Keep a healthy diet, get rest, keep clothes off the area as much as possible. Sweat also seems to aggravate the neuralgia so stay dry.

Do you have any back injuries? Herniated discs? That could be the culprit as well.

All the best,
Scooter

   Hi Scooter

Thanks for the reply, and reading the posts here I am aware you have been suffering this pain as well, hope you are doing better. I don't have any back problems I am aware of that could cause this, the timing is suspicious was fine before the sex now everything is falling apart. Luckily it's getting better not worse day by day but taking it's good time.

Trying to minimize aggivatibg it until I can get to the doc this week. Scary thing is HIV and syphilis can cause similar pains but maybe not as common. Did test neg out to 4.5 months for those though. Probably gonna get a nother battery of testing just to make sure and see what the neuro suggests MRI etc... Possibly phn meds.

You mentioned you had a somewhat high risk sexual encounter but used protection? What makes you feel it was somewhat high risk? Using a condom should offer quit a bit of protection.

Was at a massage place, stupid I know. The girl felt painful when intercourse started, I think she might of been having an outbreak at the time or just getting over one. I started having symptoms 3 days later.

Can you ask this person about her std/stv status? Is that an option?

I tried to locate her but no luck , then I had to move shortly after so no longer live in the area. That would have been the easiest way I know, I tried. Now I have to run through the gammet of doctors with no answers to give. It feels like neurologic symptoms, my neuro seen this is soldiers overseas, he tried to get to the bottom of it through testing but never found anything, chalked it up to a virus, eventually the symptoms went away. I hope that is all that I have as well.
I will wait a while and see how things go, also see how the neurotonin affects it. Other option is visit ucsf urology pelvic pain clinic and see what they think.

Okay well it is what it is. From this point it will be a matter of deduction. My symptoms came on 2 days after exposure. If you do have HSV eventually a blood test will detect the antibodies. I would take the med and continue your testing. If the Cymbalta is helping with the nerve pain, great. Maybe the pain clinic could give you some information that you don't already have. You could also visit a pain management doctor as I did. I underwent a nerve block in my spine for the neuralgia in my pelvic area. It didn't do a damn thing and was a waste of 3 grand, but you never know.

What I have learned to do is keep the replication of the virus to a minimum and that for me means staying on the antiviral. Check out the web article Herpes Never Sleeps. For me it explains why the antivirals aren't always effective. I've also learned with trial and error the less I aggravate my nerves the quieter they stay for longer periods.

Keep it real and honest with future partners.

All the best,
Scooter
