It's very common to have anal itching and anal lesions if you have genital herpes. Remember that outbreaks can occur anywhere in the "boxer shorts" aera.
If you are having an OB, this is probably just part of it. Or it cold BE the OB. Try some vagisil instead of the Prep H. I find it very helpful for what you are describing.

Yes, I see the doctor every month. Because of what happened. One doctor says it hemmorroid and the other says its herpes. So, I don't know what to do anymore... Is not normal for herpes to itch so much? Remeber I just got H in May, so I'm learning how my body is reacting and its getting worse..

I just had another hpv test last week. Waiting on the results there too. Going to the doctors next month should I have him swab my anal for something??? Please help me.. My doctors think I'm crazy!!!

I have exactly what has been described. H in the anal area but an OB usually ends in horrific itching and red skin and fissures (cracks in the skin). I am on long term antibiotics so I thought it started as yeast but my (non-medical degreed) opinion is that the herpes upsets the normal balance of the skin such that a dermatitis of some sort sets in (akin to psoriasis or excsema) because I actually also was able to get rid of it by taking diflucan (for yeast, candida) and then an ointment called Psorcon seemed to clear it tremendously. I believe the psorcon is also a steroidal drug and I was very fearful at first that if what I was experiencing was just normal herpes that it would be made far worse. That did not happen and it cleared up. No more itch at all! You may want to ask the Dr. about trying it. I too, have only had H for about 8 months and just don't know what to expect so this itching was very confusing to me. I think I beat it though. For now. . . .

Hmmm, that sounds like a nice case of thrush - it itches like hell and when you do scratch (which you inevitably do) the area then becomes red and sore and hurts more!
The cuts are indicative of thrush, I didn't know that until recently. I used to have quite bad vaginal thrush and after intercourse would often develop 'splits' in my skin which hurt. I just thought it was something i was going to have to live with, but then they went away and i read a few months ago that candida can cause this.
See my other post for how to help this.

I'm not a doctor, and only a doctor can help you.

There are so many things that can cause an itchy anus. Please do see a doctor. A new one if you need to.

Causes of itchy assholes:

-excessive cleaning of the anal area. (soap bar must not touch the anus!! Also rough toilet paper is bad!!)
-Moisture around the anus, from excessive sweating, or moist stools.
-What you drink (beer, milk, citrus fruit juices, caffeine drinks)
-What you eat (chocolate, fruit, tomatoes, nuts, and popcorn)

Also, some rare causes include:
-pinworms
-psoriasis
-eczema
-dermatitus
-hemorrhoids
-anal fissures
-anal infections
-allergies

Hmmm, many different things can cause an itchy anus (pruritis ani)!

See a doctor and ...
What you can do at home:

Avoid the foods and drinks previously mentioned. Don't excessively clean your anus. Take warm, not hot, baths every day. After baths make sure you dry your anus before putting on your clothes. If you use your hairdryer, don't have it on high. Burning your anus is not a good idea. Use wet tissue to clean your anus. Do not use scented wet tissue. Also, use creams or medicine prescribed by your doctor. Do NOT use creams not prescribed by your doctor.

Most people experience relief in a week, but it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a complete cure.

If your doctor is not helping, get a second opinion! Or a third if necessary!

Very good, I really like ur comments. I think what happened to mine lately is probably from exessive coffee, that I havent had in a long time in my household. 2 day weekend of enjoying my long lost passion. Lo n Behold, my body sure has changed. I had quite a bit of hazelnuts, with hardshell. That I ve shared with my dogs, and myself, cracking nuts with a hammer.

Could it be that? I hardly ever get itchy ass. I had just put on some homeopathic hemmorroid cream. It seems to do ok. At that point I couldnt take the itching, I quickly made myself some betonite mixed with water, and drank it. That was just about 10 mins ago. It seems to ebb it down. Wow, that was quick. Now Im about to make the residual coffee I had yesterday, percolator. Then I will use it for enema, to flush out any possible debris up in the good ol tunnel.

Candida is something serious to think about, because its a form of parasites. I read this book "cure for all cancer" and "cure for all diseases" Alot of mentions of parasites/worms that I wouldnt care to repeat. All caused by alot of processed foods that encourages epidemic of worms. So I take betonite clay with water, psyllium husks, homeopathic, naturopathic, and minerals. Those are incredible stuff to flush out the parasites. Bernard Jensen is a Great man of health. I love his books, I could go on with more of my favorite authors and health ideas.

Best O luck to anal itchers. I wouldnt wish that on an enemy!

R

i hear you on that one....and the worst part is that this is a question i have not been able to ask my gyno with a straight face...eyes always looking towards the ground as i vaguely describe the situation in the "underneath region hole area". And my doc always says..."your bottom looks fine!" Even SHE can't use the real word..
so i hear you on that one...it doesnt do it all of the time, but from time to time i get it...and there's been occassions when number 2 results in a bit of blood.

So FOUL. any ideas?

This can be an indicator both of worms - usually pinworms, or also a candida overgrowth in your bowels.

Check out www.curezone.com, its got heaps of info on how to fix this.

You still there? I had the same problem for a couple of years and seem to have found a cure. The stuff is a cream with the active ingredient of capsaicin 0.025%. Capsaicin is found in cayenne. It burns to put it on, especially at first, so apply very sparingly until you get used to it. Also, it makes me have to dump pretty quickly, so plan ahead for that! Not to go into too much detail, but it seems like the effect has been to make the mucous membranes more healthy. The product name is Swedish Bitters with Capsaicin or something like that and it contains a bunch of other herby sorts of ingredients, but I strongly suspect that the capsaicin is the only part that matters. I started using it about a month ago and pretty much haven't scratched since. Also I've been using it less and less, and still having the good results.

I have been using baby wipes and "Boudreaux's Butt Paste" (name brand) for three weeks with just the smallest itch, to no itch. Always cotton underware, and useing a very pure soap too.
What a huge relief. I've been plaged with anal and perinal itch for 6 years.
Hope this can help someone...

Well, I appreciate the posts everyone's made. I've been "suffering quietly" for months, afraid to mention this to anyone, but on a whim, searched on google and found your comments. Thanks, I now have the courage to do something about it, and several good suggestions to start with. Here's to a future without itchy anus!

I had it off and on for a number of years and could never figure out what it was. One day it dawned on me that just possibly I was allergic to the cashews I love so much. So I didn't eat any for several months and guess what? No problem. So then I said to myself, I will run an experiment, so I had several handsfull of those lovely fresh roasted cashews and bang, 3 days later a big swollen itchy bung hole that lasted for a week. Yep that was it. Somtime even now I can't resist, like several weeks ago, we were invited to some freinds house for supper, and she had this lovely salad with cashews in it. I thought, what the heck, so I helped myself to several servings and WOW. Three days latter a swelling and itching like you wouldn't believe, it lasted a week or more. I know for a fact that I can't have many cashews. It's just a food allergy I put up with.

   YAY!!! I am not alone!!!

We really should all get together and have a parade... I'm sure there are thousands more in the closet that we can all help!

SAY NO TO ANAL ITCHING!!! THERE IS HELP OUT THERE!!!

I've been using my baby's creme... and it helps alot... I don't know if it is because it is soothing, or because I stop scratching because it is kinda sticky and don't want to make a mess of my hands :-P

I find it is usually itchy through the night and usually keeps me up in frustration. Then the next morning its painful as heck. And, like alot of you, I've been to embarassed to talk to my GP.

I don't eat many cashews, so I don't think thats what has caused mine. I have however started drinking alot more coffee lately. I tried to cut that down and go terrible head aches. I guess I will try to stop drinking coffee and see if that helps. Anyone know a good forum on headaches? I fear I may be visiting that in a couple days :-P

Wow. So nice to read these and laugh. I have been living with an ichy anus for over a decade!!! The first anal specialist I went to told me that it was just stress and that I was a "midnight itcher", a lot of help that did me. It is the worst and usually only bothers me at night. Right before I'm about to fall asleep, it's terrible. I often itch in my sleep and wake myself up. The only solution I've found to be of any help is witch hazel, the main ingredient in Tucks, which is for hemroid relief. It stings but kind of numbs the pain. Any creams drive me crazy and are very uncomfortable. I have been tested for stds, fungus and worms and it's all come back negative. I don't fully understand but I've been told that some cases are just a mystery. I have some "splits" in my skin (fissures?, thrust?) and sometimes have bleeding. I am going to continue to try and solve this mystery. I've lived this way so long! I can't even imagine what it's like to sleep strait throught the night. In fact I'm up right now 2:30 am because if the itch!!! I deeply empathize with you all.

staph infection this is my new disease to obsess about.I suspect I have been battling one for over 5 years.I thought it was candida but now I am sure its some kind of staph. And I am fairly certain I got it by using coraphor.all my outbreaks since using this product over 5 years ago have been pus filled oozing absesses that take over 1 week to heal.Talk about embarrasment try explaining that to your doctor and yes I did go to many of them many times.Their reactions varied from outright disgust, passing me off to another dr, full tests including cultures showing nothing wrong leading to my all time favorite diagnosis there is nothing wrong with me physicaly I should go see a shrink.anyhow my point is staph is itchy shit no pun intended I get itchy blotches from head to toe they come and go usually in the same spots.I have been on antibiotics they helped a little and then the infection overcomes them. But overall I have been able to contain and lessen the severity of it naturally and over time.

I read through most of these comments and didnt notice any mention of parasites. If you look at a lot of the colon cleanse sites they list anus itching as a symptom which can be caused by parasites. I've also seen it listed as a possible candida problem which millions of folks suffer from (this was listed in the above comments as well). Maybe try one of the internal cleanses and see what happens. I think I might order one tonight as I just have started the itchies a month ago. NOT FUN! Good luck to all of you!

you are all awesome. my bum started itching after i started taking antibiotics. no one told me that itchy bottom was a possible side effect! now my bum is itchy and my boyfriend has a rash too. i looked at pictures of herpes and it doesn't look like it. i'm going to the doctor today with my fingers crossed. i feel like i'm deformed. i'm scared to talk about it with my friend's and family. my boyfriend thinks it's jock itch, but i don't think so because it started from my anus and spread up and out.

Probably your boyfriend can use some over the counter ointment for jock itch for a few days and it'll clear up. My first wife used to be prone to yeast infections after using antibiotics and I'd get them too. One thing that can help is to eat some live culture yoghurt while you are taking the antibiotics and that will help restore your natural good bacteria. There are also supplements called "biotics" that can help, but I do recommend seeing the doctor

Hey guys Can I join the club?

Like many, visiting my GP is the LAST thing I wanna do right now so I just went to the store and bought some Anusol. Is this a good idea or do you think I should ask my GP before using it? It's over the counter stuff so it can't do me any harm, right? It says it relieves and heals an itchy anus and that's what I have!!

Wow, someone with the same idea as me! I'm currently suffering with an itchy butt, and I do believe it is from cashews. The last time I had a case of anal itch was two years ago when I ate a bunch of cashews. Last week, I decided to have some, and of course the itch came back.

I do know that cashews are related to poison ivy, which I'm also very allergic to, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. Mangos are also in the same family, but I eat these regularly and don't have any problems. Seems to be just cashews!

I believe mine was a fungus (candida) problem, which I think is a fairly common cause. Here's what I did:

Go to a health store and buy:
- Aloe Vera Juice (with NO additives, esp. sugar or starch)
- Tea Tree Oil (100% pure)
- DDS Acidophilus with FOS (in the refrigerated section, capsules)

Also needed:
- Q-Tips
- Mild soap, I use Oil of Olay Unscented, or Tea Tree soap from The Body Shop
- lots of 100% cotton underwear (change frequently)

Store the Aloe Vera Juice and the DDS in the fridge.

Every time you have a bowel movement (should be about once a day):
- mix together 1 tbsp. of Aloe Vera Juice and about 15 drops of Tea Tree oil.
- sit on the edge of the bathtub
- dip toilet paper into the solution and gently press to clean
- then take Q-Tips, dip them in the solution and gently clean inside. Insert each one only once, then grab a new one until it's clean.
- if there's any solution left dip it in toilet paper and press
- remain seated on the edge of the tub for another 5 or 10 minutes until it is completely dry.

Every time you have a shower:
- Make sure you are gentle and rinse the area really, really well. Left over soap can irritate it more.
- Dry yourself off really well
- Sit on the edge of the tub
- Cut open a DDS Acidophilus with FOS capsule and catch the powder in your hand
- Rub it over the area

You should start to feel relief in the first few days, keep at it for about two weeks.

Keep track of what your body is doing, there's always the possiblity of an allergy. Stop or modify if necessary.

Actually, I think the best thing to do would be to see a Naturopathic doctor, I would recommend them before seeing a Medical doctor.

Good luck!

* Always 100% Cotton Underwear
* Salt baths when realy bad
* Baby wipes kept on my butt even slept with if necessary
* Cotton bed sheets
* Cold compress also helps when realy bad
* Anal Doc Specialist told me this one - cotton ball with talc powder

I also have herpes so I'm not sure if its related.

I saw a news item years ago that I found so funny (sorry ... weird sense of humor) that I've never forgotten it.

It talked about "itchy butt syndrome" (yes, that's what they called it ... there was a more scientific name too, but of course I don't remember that) caused by excessive piercings. Said that people who had a penchant for piercings often had some sort of allergy/reaction to the metals in their system which caused the itch.

Just thought I'd throw that little bit of info out there.

   Hi vegas,
I just came to this site yesterday and your post caught my eye. I've had genital herpes, not sure of the abbreviation for them yet, for about 4 months now, and every time I have a bo, actually a day or 2 before a bo, my butt acts up! And that is usually where the first herpes will appear. That's how I know I'm getting an ob. I was so distressed I told my GYN, "But I've never had anal intercourse in my life"!!! She said it doesn't matter, if the virus was on that area, you can get herpes there. My poor, belearured butt hole will even bleed slightly. I use ovc cortisone cream and it seems to help, a little. I've also tried aloe vera gel and desitine, you know for diaper rash? Teh cortisone seems to help the most. AND, I've come to find out that not all herpes are equal. What I mean by that is, they don't all look the same. I would never in a million years think that what I have was herpes. I never have any blisters. Just nasty, freaking slits. Like someone took a razor blade to me. When the Dr. told me I had herpes, I damn near fell of the table.
Anyway, not sure this helps, but whatever is invading our arses, you're not alone.

Topaz -

Are you sure that everything you are experiencing is herpes? Cortisone typically makes an ob worse, not better.

I know it sucks to have things going on down under but maybe you have something else happening that's triggering obs, or maybe they aren't all obs.
