I dated a guy who told me before we had sex that he got molluscum contagiosum (its a pox virus) from a GF in college. Took several months for it to go away. Its contagious while you have signs. He had no signs and I never contracted it from him in the years we dated.

Here is another good link for info, by emedicine
http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic270.htm

...and here's a link to a photo to what it generally looks like
(although not as inflammed) http://www.dermatology.org/atlas/atlasmoll.htm

If you think you have it, go to the dermatologist ASAP, because it has a tendency to spread like wildfire (as i unfortunately found out). If it's only a couple, they can remove them right away. But you want to stop it before it spreads to other areas.

Molluscum contagiosum is a common skin disease caused by a virus which affects the top layers of the skin. The name molluscum contagiosum implies that the virus develops growths that are easily spread by skin contact. Similar to warts, this virus belongs to the poxvirus family and enters the skin through small breaks of hair follicles. It does not affect any internal organs.
