"Lupus and Herpes"

LAST EDITED ON Sep-02-06 AT 00:35 AM (CDST)

I am 21 years old, and have recently been diagnosed with lupus. Just when I am getting over the fact that I have lupus, I have just realized that I may have herpes as well. (the test results are still pending, but im pretty sure i have it)

I am just wondering, will herpes affect lupus...make it active again? would lupus affect herpes, giving me more outbreaks?

I am taking CellCept, a immunosuppresant drug. I depend on it for lupus, but im afraid itll make my possible herpes even worse. I dont know what to do!!

I am also so scared, I feel like no guy would ever look at me the same way, and that I'll never find someone who begin a relationship with me. I want to get married, have kids. How can i tell a guy i like that i have herpes?!

Please, give me some thoughts on this..

Hi, there. I am really new to this (forum and Herpes) myself. I do not know the answer to your question, but I wanted to suggest you post it again in the "Support" section. That is the most read, and you clearly have a Herpes related question. I think you will get a quicker response there.

Sorry you are having to deal with all this. If you do have Herpes, please don't feel like no one would want you. If you read through some old posts around here (esp. relationships)you will see that a lot of people have found partners who are OK with them having Herpes.

I just got a positive blood result 8/21 and am asymptomatic. Still waiting for my partner to go in and get tested, but he is not upset with me or avoiding contact at all.

Good luck.

C.

Hey, me again. I saw that you did post in Support; hope you get more responses.

I was looking through old stuff in this (Gen.Health) folder and on page 4 hope7777 asks about Herpes and Lupus. Don't know if the answers there will do much, but you might want to check it out.

Well I've had Lupus since I was ten and It can be really bad or not at all just a bother from time to time. Just last Sunday I found out I had Herpes and it sucks because since your immune system sucks because of the lupus that lets the herpes get worse and man right now the pain I'm going through is unbearable and I heard it'll take longer for the outbreak to go away because of the lupus I'm devastated. Maybe we can take and share information and support. I feel the same way I almost feel dirty and worthless as if no guy would want me ever again but everyone says that wont be the case so I guess I'll tell you the same "That wont be the case" someone will love you for you and not your defects.

Ruby,

   Hey Ruby, welcome to HHP!

I'll say the same thing to you--consider posting in Support. We do have some really knowledgeable folks here (some are nurses) and they may have some comments about Lupus and Herpes together.

How were you diagnosed with Herpes? Do you know which type you have?

I'm sorry you're having so much pain right now. Plenty of people (without Lupus) have pretty awful primaries. So try not to get too scared that it's worse b/c of Lupus. Maybe it's just a bad primary like lots of people get.

If you can take Tylenol or Advil, try that for pain. You can also sit on a bag of frozen peas to numb the area and reduce the pain. If it hurts when you pee, pour water over yourself to dilute the acid in the urine.

Did you get a prescription of antivirals? I don't think those are contraindicated with Lupus? If there's no issue with the Lupus, then maybe overall if you took antivirals suppressively, that might reduce the OBs even if your immune system isn't as helpful b/c of Lupus.
