"Persa-Gel by Clean & Clear (Acne Treatment)"

A couple of months ago I noticed a friend of mine with a tube of Persa-Gel in her hand. I said something along the lines of "Oh, I love that stuff!" And she said something about not only using it for pimples, but that she puts it on her cold sores and they always go away very quickly. I'm always up to try something new, since nothing else seems to work so....

Sure enough, about 2 weeks later I felt an outbreak developing "down under" and broke out the Persa-Gel. And believe me, it was definitely an outbreak... I've had HSV for about 8 years, and get OB's sometimes 2 or 3 times a month... sometimes less. I don't take Valtrex or anything because I'm way to embarrassed not only of going to the doctor for it, but scared to death that someone will come across it someday and my secret will be out. Anyway, as soon as I felt the beginnings of the OB, I put some Persa-Gel on the area. This was in the evening time. The next morning I still felt the tiniest bit like an OB was still coming on (whereas normally by this time it would have been beginning to blister,) and put on more. By late afternoon, there was nothing. The OB never fully delevoped.

About a month later, I felt another OB coming on. I decided to wait a day to where it would just about start to blister just to be sure, and again, this was definitely an OB. I put Persa-Gel on at night, and the next morning I didn't feel anything. I put more on that morning anyway, but the OB was definitely gone.

Persa-Gel works on pimples by drying them out. I think it's a little stronger than typical over-the-counter acne treatment. It works the same on my pimples as it did for my OB. Quickly. I said that to say this: I've read the threads about using Purell to make OBs go away and they were saying it works because of the alcohol in it which dries out the skin and therefore the OB. Well, the Purell dries out within seconds, and though it may have a lasting effect on the skin/OB, the Persa-Gel is a cream that will stay on the area and continue to work much longer.

Of course I can't say any of this from any deep, super-involved scientific lab experiment, but I'm pretty much using educated guesses to say that this is how it works. And that however it works, it worked for me twice so far. I'm not saying it's a cure, but it darn sure stopped my OB before it could really even bother me.

Just wanted to share my awesome find with you all. I joined the forum just to do so.... I have been reading the forum here and there for a very long time, but never had any sort of input or question to post, so I never bothered registering. But now here I am ) Persa-Gel can be bought at just about any drug store or supermarket, and is near the face wash and acne treatment. I hope that if any of you try it that you have the same results as me.

Tata for now )

Just wanted to share that I got to try the Persa-Gel on yet another wanna-be-OB that never got to become an OB. I think it's safe to say that it works.

I see that this product's active ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, as is true with a lot of acne products out there. Maybe one of the more technical folks will take a look and can comment on how it might be working.

Dear AllThNamesRTakn,

You are hilarious! That is undoubtedly the most clever, funny, crazy name I ever heard on here - tee hee hee.

Pasm.

P.S. "since nothing else seems to work...." I hear you. I think I would try like rat poison or brake fluid or lysol if I thought it would work. I keep reading the Purell posts and I think I should try it. I just don't get many obs - mostly neuralgia - internal pain. Do you think I should drink the stuff? Just kidding. Just kidding. Just kidding. I know better. It is just a little late at night for me (10:19 pm)and I think I get weird after 10 pm. Sorry. Good night.

I rarely laugh any more - especially on this post - but you just keep getting funnier and funnier. "Who needs genitals?" You have got me in stitches. I used to wonder if a doctor could laser away my nerve endings so I could be out of pain. Who need nerve endings anyway, eh?

3. "Benzoyl Peroxide"
In response to message #0

   from: http://archfami.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/9/2/179

"Benzoyl peroxide is a potent topical bactericidal agent that reduces the population of P.acnes by generating reactive oxygen species in the sebaceous follicle .

It rapidly improves both inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions and has therefore been a first-line choice in the therapy of mild acne and a mainstay in acne therapy in general. It is available in a wide variety of concentrations and preparations. Benzoyl peroxide is very effective in combination with either topical antibiotics or tretinoin (described above).13 When combined with tretinoin or 3% erythromycin, BPO can have a synergistic effect on inflammatory acne.9

The major adverse effect of BPO is local irritation, which is often most pronounced during therapy initiation. Erythema and dryness may also occur. Allergic contact dermatitis, necessitating therapy discontinuation, has been reported in approximately 1% to 3% of patients.14 Patients should be informed that the drug bleaches clothing and bed linens. This may present a problem, particularly when it must be applied to the chest or back."

Benzoyl Peroxide dries out lesions and acts as a topical antimicrobial. So while it dries out OBs, it can't act as a preventative. Alcohol or hydrogen peroxide perform teh same functions.

Just for the record - hydrogen peroxide is no longer recommended for skin care. It actually causes more harm than it does good.

when it comes to putting "zit" medicine on your private parts - beware. Know how when you put it on your face it can over dry it and cause redness? Same thing down yonder and keep in mind that our genital skin is far more sensitive than the skin on our forehead it.

grace

The first step in stopping the perceived stigma about genital herpes - is to stop believing in it yourself

If after 8 years you are still getting frequent obs - 2 or 3 a month - you need to see your doc.

You could have something else that is going on that is either mimicking herpes or keeping it active.

1 in 4 people have hsv2. 30% of all new infections are hsv1.

With numbers like that, what's to be embarassed about? And what if it turned out you didn't even have herpes?
