It was very nice and led to the demise of a 21 pound turkey with cornmeal stuffing and all the good stuff that goes with it.

We had 16 here for Thanksgiving. Today I make turkey soup and then the turkey is gone. Also had birthday party for daughter-in-law last night. Way too much food for one week!! Anyway I had my pilgrim candles on the table--William and Susannah White, my gr-gr-gr on and one grandparents who were on the Mayflower and parents of Peregrine White who was born in Cape Cod. I'm descended from their older son--Resolved White. Beautiful weather here and we were out cutting firewood Friday and yesterday. Hunting weekend coming up and supposed to get cold again. It was in the 50's yesterday. The last of the carrots from the garden are going into the soup. I give thanks for the bounty from the garden, my family and all the friends here on HHP.

My Underwood and Wilder ancestors were later arrivals in Massachusetts colony in 1637. I have some information that leads me to conclude that some on both sides were in Virginia Colony earlier, but it's not definite. Genealogy is a lot of fun. I got interested in it when I was in 8th grade and had a school assignment to produce a family tree on a big piece of paper. Even back then, I had pretty good information from a cousin of my grandmother who had done a lot of very good research back in the 1940s when it was a matter of pounding the pavement getting it all together from courthouse records.

We had turkey tetrazini for supper tonight. Yum. Still have a slice or two of pumpkin pie, as well.

Oh the pumpkin pie was the first thing to go piled high with Cool Whip! Yes I did all my research the old fashioned way about 25 years ago--cemeteries, libraries, courthouses, interviewing older relatives and looking at lots of microfilm records of census. Now it's almost too easy to research and a lot of people don't know how to get back to original source documentation. It was a lot of fun and expensive and now I have all these binders of info and no one to pass it on to. Loved traveling out east and doing the research and want to get back to upstate New York, western Mass. etc. Been to the Lincoln library looking at old obits on microfilm of old newspapers, but that was more than a few years ago.

I'll be upset if you don't let me know you're coming so we can get together.

For those who don't know, the Lincoln Library is not the same as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, it's the city library.

The curator of the historical collection is a good friend of mine as is the curator of the Lincoln Papers at the ALPLM. I've got connections.

Coming to see the ALPLM is worth the trip by itself, along with the other sites including the Old State Capital where Lincoln gave his "House Divided" speech, Lincoln's home, New Salem, the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office and...... "El Rancho Rajah".
