It's a beautiful Sunny day with the temp at -9 and windchill at -35.

I'm very thankful to have a son in the snow plowing business. My driveways and front walk are nice and clean.

Yes, the Big Chill! Also high winds and drifting snow. The sun makes it look nice outside--Mother Nature's idea of a joke. I am not even venturing down our long driveway for the newspaper or mail today. BF will pick it up on his way home from work. We had a lot of plowing and shoveling to do yesterday. Turned on the electric heat in the shop for our cat. We woke up to -18 with wind chill of -42 and it is -10 with the thermometer in the sun and the wind is gusting. Headed back to the basement to read in front of the wood burner. Soup for supper tonight.

Cold here again and I should be sitting in the deer stand as this is the last hunting weekend. I will be out this afternoon before sunset. Seems like the winter doldrums have set in. We had a taste of above freezing weather and now back to this--ugh!! Is anyone doing anything fun?? Yes Grace the flu virus is going around. I get the flu shot in the fall and I'm not usually around those germ factories called kids. Hope you are staying well. Did you find a school yet that values the wisdom of the more mature crowd???

I've been there a couple of times and didn't get rained on very much... Fog, however, seems ever present as your forecast suggests.

subzero temps back again for tonight and some snow today....ugh

still no luck getting into an online rn-bsn program deb. some of their applications aren't reallyset up for us old folks going back to school so I can't even complete the one ( really, it matters what my parents educational status is? ). sent an email to the one I'm having the most problem with and one of the replies sent back is labeled "suspect" in the title so evidently they think I am not real....lol What are you supposed to do when your school closed years ago so they don't list it in their list of choices and the lil chippy answering your emails never heard of your school? oh and it's my fault I can't recall the date I took my sat's 29 years ago and their applications don't take into account that the version you took was scored differently than they do now. I also don't have my transcripts from 27 years ago so have to wait for my copy of them to arrive in the mail so I can have all that info in front of me to call for help next time. really, if you want 80% of RN's BSN by 2020, there should be an expedited way to apply and more programs out there that are affordable to chose from.

ok, vent over and back to bed to snuggle with the cats to stay warm....lol

And the cold just keeps on flowing down from Canada. We are back in the deep freeze and more snow. And now I'm in health care purgatory again as BCBS canceled both my old and new policies. Getting thru to them has been unsuccessful--phone waits are 3 hours, they aren't responding to my emails, so I typed and mailed a letter yesterday. So January is a complete disaster for me so far.

Grace I never took the SAT's when I was in school. When I went to the local Junior College to get my ADN I had to take a lot of tests and remedial English and Math etc. Was a huge endeavor and took me 5 years to get my degree. Of course I was working 40 hours a week too! I keep getting the stuff in the mail to get my BSN, but since I haven't worked for almost 11 years I'm not interested. Will your hospital help you with your schooling?? Since they want BSNs maybe you should approach the educational person in your hospital. Seems like you could clep out of some of the classes with your years of experience. Glad you have a cat to keep you warm!

you get some credit just for being a RN. all in all, they make you jump through a lot of hoops. I've been a fine nurse without an art class all these years, not sure why I need one now? lol

just got my nursing school transcripts and my grades listed are a lot lower than than I remember...lol as my BFF says, maybe they graded us differently back then? he he he

You know, the insurance industry knew for years the affordable care act expected them to be ready by now. Not sure why this is all being so difficult for so many!!! maybe if they weren't all greedy bastards this would've went a lot more smoothly?

I'm coming to your house Deb to snuggle since you two are so toasty that you didn't put the flannels on until recently!! I'll bring some of my canned pears I did in red wine that turned out fantastic!!

Grace you are welcome any time, but from this coming Monday through Wednesday we will not be above zero. I canceled line dancing class yesterday as I did not want to drive in -25 wind chill. All the schools were closed yesterday too. Also you need Art to become a well rounded person--this is the answer I was given when I was in junior college--I had to take a humanities class and learn all sorts of stuff that I only use when I work crossword puzzles--lol!! Anyway bring the pears, I'll break out some salsa and we will camp out in the family room in front of the wood burner--it was a toasty 77 yesterday afternoon. I did get my insurance issues taken care of--went to my aunt's house and used her landline phone. Called and was on hold for one hour but we put the phone on speaker and visited until someone finally answered. Took me about one hour to get sorted out. So yesterday I made my annual mammo apptmt etc. Getting the bills for my colonoscopy and so far it totals about $8,000--that was a huge shocker. Five years ago it was $4,000. Of course I had to go to the OR as I can't use Versed so got Propofol. The main thing is that I am healthy.

We had another 5.5 inches of snow and a low of zero last night and another little bit of snow today, but it's going to start warming up tomorrow.... so they say.

Happy Valentine's Day... a day late.

everything is fine here in fact it's in the 50's today!! I was driving with the windows down in the car!!!

I've pretty much stopped doing the other message boards so I rarely turn on my laptop to come to HHP to visit Funny how something I spent hours on each day now sits unused most of the time!! Enjoying reading more and have been doing some major binge watching on netflix...he he he

still no word on me getting into either school I applied for...sigh

on the bright side though my son got into 2 grad schools so far - one of which was his #1 choice

oh and I've lost 15 pounds!!!

Grace congratulations on the weight loss--any good tips besides don't eat and drink a lot of water and be active?? I've dropped 6 pounds since the first of the year, but slow going and not much fun. No more DQ for me!! Good to see you on the boards again as I was worried about you and also no Raven lately. But life does get busy and the weather has made it difficult too--electricity outages etc. We are foggy, 40 and light drizzle now. Supposed to get colder so tomorrow the driveway will be ice. Have had three days of melting so that's good as the snow banks are stacked high. Hope you get a positive response from a school soon. Then we will probably never hear from you with work, school and homework. You are brave to take it on. So what is your son majoring in and congratulations to him.

I think it's public policy administration he is going to pursue a master's in. I always forget....lol

I do a combination of counting calories with myfitnesspal.com and the 17 day diet. as long as you aren't a picky eater, the 17 day diet is a good way to get a quick start on weight loss so you can see results and stick with it. Lean meats , veggies and yogurt for the most part and the pounds slide off if you can stick with it. I'm not a big meat eater so I get bored quickly with it but when I get stuck, I go right back to it so I start losing again. It's been nice to breathe in my clothes again I have also become a pro at eating less calories during the day so that I have enough in the evening for a glass of wine...he he he
