Good hearing from you. The Facebook group itself is private. Therefore, no one knows you are in the group, except those in the group.
Some people use fake profiles just for the group so they can keep their real life, and group life separate. However, it's a social group so we all have pictures of our selves, have regional events, or local events and meet up and make friends, etc. the halloween event in Columbus had over a hundred people from the area. There are big groups that I know of in Ohio, Michigan, Pa, Kentucky, Etc. Some other events get hundreds of people in attendance. It's more social than help me I have herpes.
I think most people get recruited, as I did from dating web sites. It's been a life savor, and I've met some good friends as a part of it. The social aspect is great, but it does lack the message board variety that this site has, or the privacy so to speak when asking questions or seeking advice, etc. I wish there was a better combination of the two to be honest. I was lost as most people might be when first diagnosed. This group here gave me an outlet, an answer, and more confidence in my situation.
