Anyone think spring is actually going to be sprung this year? lol We just got 5 inches of snow last week though at least it is all melted already. At this rate, there won't be many flowers blooming for Easter

How is everyone? I'm still real busy with school and don't get to check in as much as I used to but here I am!!

I have been trying to be polite and not report the weather often from here. It has been nice for quite some time around here. It got into the 70's today. Whatever the first tree is to bloom around here has been in full display this week. There have been daffodils for a couple of weeks. Should be back to damp again by evening tomorrow.

My men's college basketball team is doing well this week so I am a happy camper.

Glad you are getting along ok, but just busy, Grace.

We were gone for several weeks to Mesa, AZ, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Branson, MO. Was in the upper 80's in Mesa and we enjoyed watching our Cubs spring training and basking in the sun around the pool at the RV resort. Grand Canyon was sunny and warm too and very busy--I forgot to factor in Spring Break when making our vacation plans. But what an awesome feat of nature and the Park Service has a wonderful FREE bus shuttle system on the south rim that makes it easy to see a lot and it is easy to get off and hike as much as you want too. Came home to chilly weather and wind and of course when we woke up Monday morning we had over two inches of snow on the ground. This morning woke up to 12 degrees!! I did a quick walk around the house yesterday and saw one snowdrop blooming and the daffodils and tulips had started to come up. It was up to 70 here for several days while we were gone. Now all the snow is melted off and looks like we will get into the mid 60's and get rain in the middle of the week. Still looking for the robins.

And it snowed all night long last night...lol Pretty sure Spring is on vacay somewhere else right now!!

I have to redo all my landscaping pretty much this year unfortunately. Between the hail storm last May and workers all over my yard for a month, not sure much of my vegetation will come back at all. Hopefully I can get my daughter to give me a hand once she is home from school next month for the summer.

I sent my kids their Easter boxes this week since I won't see them on the holiday. My daughter opened hers today and texted me "thanks for the diabetes mom"...he he he

It's in the upper 30s here and rather windy with some showers in the area. A good day to stay home, I think.

Starting to see some hints of green in places.

Starting to think about some landscape upgrades. The goldfish and Koi seem to have done well in the pond over the Winter. We keep an aerator going for them, but turn off the waterfall and remove the pump.

Well I saw robins yesterday and they are shivering and wondering why they are here. Worked outside yesterday cleaning up the land where BF wants to build a "shed" for all the toys--RV, boat, tractor etc. We went out again today and got sleeted and rained out. Still a lot more work to do. Anyway Grace, you are creating job security by giving your daughter diabetes! I cleaned out my closet and have six large garbage bags of clothes to donate. Unfortunately it's because I have grown in so many ways since settling down with BF. This being 60 is really changing my body--even my skin is looking different. Oh well, at least I'm above the dirt and not under it.

Near where I live some of my favorite roads are a bit narrow as in two lanes and shoulders that are narrow enough that if you pulled over as far as you could to the right but kept from going over the edge into the ditch you would be hanging out three to six feet into the road. The ditches next to these roads have steep sides (both) and are maybe six feet deep.

Driving along these roads it occurred to me, only in spring time do the ducks too lazy to migrate end up wandering the side of the road in pairs too preoccupied to much give a rip about cars going past. I notice the ducks on those particular roads more than any others.

Yup it is spring time here.

The daffodils and tulips are blooming, but it is dry here. Went fishing yesterday afternoon, but only catfish were biting and it was buggy out on the water. Going to Earth Day activities this morning and hope to get some free oak saplings to plant and recycle an old TV. We have started walking the county roads picking up trash and need to continue. The ditches look so bad after all the snow is gone. Why do the people in this beautiful country of ours have to throw everything out of their cars and litter!!

We had temps as high as 87 a couple days this week, but now we're looking at highs around 60 with lows in the upper 30s for the coming week and it's raining today. I'm glad I didn't put the jacket away yet. Everything is in bloom or leafing out. The frogs are very loud around our little pond.

cold again here too Raj I wished I had put a jacket on this morning to go for groceries.

I hear ya Deb - around my house people toss all sorts of stuff all the time. Mostly it's beer cans but this week someone threw out a dirty diaper and a used maxi pad and it's laying right there for me to walk around The other week someone was tossing banana peels in the middle of the road.

I just don't get it.

We had frost a few mornings this week. Today I mowed for the first time. Still have about two hours left to get done, but that will be tomorrow or Saturday. Hope to have time to get back to walking the road and get the trash picked up. The weather turned cool and windy and then Bf dropped a piece of angle iron on his right foot and couldn't walk without pain, so we've been biding our time. Raj I could use a water stop at our 2 mile mark!!

I noticed a number of hikers equipped with hydration units on their back. Not as much fun though. Hope hubby's foot is better.

There was no problem with heat exhaustion on the hike, but, with it being cold, damp and breezy last Saturday, hypothermia crossed my mind. Not so much for the scouts, but more for the rest stop folks like me who weren't moving around much.

Warming up here now and the flowers and flowering trees are gorgeous. So much better than the tornado a few weeks ago. We actually saw the funnel form over Ashton and have pictures of it. We were about five miles west of the funnel. We did get a lot of hail, but no damage to any roofs or vehicles. We were extremely lucky! The Sheriff of Ogle County had his house totally destroyed.

Had the garden tilled and are getting ready to start planting a few things. So from now on my hands will be in the dirt!!

Early this week I saw a pair of canadian geese with a very fresh brood. The little squirts were still golden colored. Most everybody was up on a sidewalk while about three of the youngsters were on the street level next to the curb trying to figure out what to do. While all this is going on an old ford mustang was holding position behind them in the traffic lane to prevent catastrophe. This was just down the embankment from the local Lowes store, not out in the wilds.
The season is progressing.

It's finally starting to look so nice outside! My daughter and I went to a local preserve yesterday and hiked around the lake and had a picnic ( ok so really we were just working on our tans I confess ). So nice to be able to get outside and do things again!!

Any volunteers to come fix my yard up? Between the hail storm last May that ruined a lot and the house repair dudes who squished any plants that had survived, it's almost like starting from scratch again...sigh. We had snow last week so hoping it's soon safe to start yard work!!! Never thought I'd be moving my daughter out of a college dorm in a snow storm in April!!!

Anyway cold here again and not a single thing planted in our garden yet. The iris and lilacs are blooming, the birds are singing and we have baby bunnies running all over the place--probably hoping we will plant a garden for them to dine on!

It was 46 degrees this afternoon when I came out to get in my car at work to come home.... and drizzling. UGh!

Where I work, there is a little lake and we have lots of Canadian geese that hang out around there. There are quite a few goslings. Did I ever mention that I hate geese? The farmer down the road when I was a kid raised geese and ducks and chickens. The geese were mean and would come out to hiss at you and try to nip you if they could. They crap everywhere, too. Nasty creatures.

I'm slow getting things going around here, too. I really need to get the pump installed for the year for the waterfall in the pond. Our son, who has a lawn care business, did the Spring cleanup, but there's still a lot left to do. I'm getting too old for that nonsense.

Hi all!

I was thinking about all of you lately so decided to check in and see who was still around.

We have 2 babies (well, not babies anymore! 3.5 and 1.5) and 1 dog and are living in the midwest. I'm teaching part time. I don't like our new city, but other than that things are pretty good. And we also are thankfully finally getting some beautiful spring weather!

Some of us are still around... occasionally. While there's not a lot of posting, we still get a fair amount of traffic so folks are still reading even if they are not brave enough to post. Social Media has taken its toll.

2 babies! and a dog. Sounds nice except you don't like the new city. I'm in the Midwest, downstate Illinois, the capital. I teach part-time, too. I teach electronics at one of the for-profit technical schools and I still work part time at my engineering job I've had for 30 years. We have 5 grown kids and 11 grandchildren so we're keeping busy.

We planted our garden last Saturday and since then have had a lot of rain. So I hope everything starts to come up. We are crazy--planted six rows of beets. So now bf is off to Menard's to buy Deer Repellent and hope it works because the garden will be gone when we get back from our vacation in WI next month if the stuff doesn't work. The deer love tender little beet greens.

Last Friday I caught my trophy walleye--over 5 lbs. I was thrilled!! My grandfather had caught a 5+ lb. walleye when he was my age, so I was hoping I could match him. Now I have photos of his walleye and mine on the refrigerator door. The fishing has been extremely slow, but nice to have warm sunny days and be out on the water.

Also nice to have sun. My brother is visiting from CO and he drove his Shelby out, so the other day four of us oldsters were in the convertible riding around.

No AC on here yet, but we have high ceiling, ceiling fans and we open our windows. Supposed to be chilly over the weekend--back to the 60's.

Yes Grace it is summer here. The AC is on, the garden is growing and yesterday we weeded in the morning and then mowed all afternoon. Of course been getting rain often enough that we are mowing every week. We are packing up tomorrow and heading north for our annual fishing trip. Already summer seems to be going by fast and officially it hasn't even started!!
