"summer is finally here!!"

Ok so now that it's almost officially summer - who is going on vacations we can talk about?

As usual, no vacations for me until the 3 of us are out of school...

Since I'm teaching year-round that is one factor and the other is that there's no place we need to go. We have lots of activities right here to keep us busy.

Already there. Family gathering.

I watched the first two episodes (ending with the one where they burned the mattresses) and then I stayed at a friend's house so I could get to the airport on time. Something bit my arm and leg, and I had bed bug paranoia for the first two days. Don't think I brought any stowaways with me.

We arrived home today from Chetek, WI where we boated, fished and ate a lot of food!! Had a great time and came home in rain and now looks like it could really get nasty here tonight. We caught a lot of fish--the crappie were still biting and bf got a Northern and a few bass too, but then he was fishing all week while I took occasional breaks. And we did get to DQ several times too. Now we would like to do the circle tour of Lake Michigan with the RV next month and maybe Niagara Falls in the fall. The garden needs to be weeded and something has been nibbling on the beets. The yard needs to be mowed too, so we need it to dry out around here. A lot of rain while we were gone. Anyway hot and humid now and hope we don't get the hail storm that could happen.

Ha Ha Ha!! I am constantly paranoid about bed bugs. We keep having occasional infestations of them at work and I have learned to view seeing a beagle around the hospital as a reason to itch!

Beagles carry bed bugs? I'll stay clear!

There are some unexpected hazards working in health care. I once caught crabs from the surgical ICU. Almost caused a breakup until we discovered the true source.

Oh, I discovered a new trigger - the stress of dealing with TSA. Seems I always get reprimanded for something. They keep changing the procedures and act like it's always been that way. At least they haven't pulled me off to a separate room yet. Can't remember the last time I had an outbreak, and my acyclovir outdated eight years ago. (Note to newbies: it really does get better.)

Bug-sniffing dogs? There's gotta be a DEA joke in there somewhere.

Raj, I've been moving toward getting out of health care and into something else. Been doing some part-time IT work for a local non-profit that wanted to use linux. It's something to put on a resume, and there's even some pay involved. It's fun to be doing something different.

It can be interesting. I know some younger folks who make a good living at it. My main bread and butter is still the elevator thing, but I'm still doing web hosting and a little IT for some of my local web customers. While I do use Linux every day, it's mostly for web browsing and the like. I'm playing a little with the Raspberry Pi, too, running Linux, of course.

I sold one of our local web hosting customers a used workstation for their office last week. When she came in on Monday morning, she had obviously forgotten the password to log into the computer when she booted it up. I had to go over and do a password recovery on it because I, foolishly, had not made a note of it to myself.....and neither had she. She seemed to think this was my fault. Then, to make matters worse, she tried to log into her web-mail unsuccessfully too may times and got locked out of the server entirely. That's obviously my fault, too. Ugh. I could get to it just fine from my office so, since it was near the end of the day, I asked if she could do what she needed to do when she got home. "I don't have a computer at home.", was the answer. SMH.

I have gotten to the point where I have a notebook next to my bed with all my passwords in. Impossible to remember them all. I do have some usual suspects I use which makes it a little easier but just too many at this point.

My mother retired early because she just refused to learn to be comfortable with computers. She has one at home and the internet but it's slower than a snail and she is constantly forgetting how to do anything on it other than surf the net. I think she is running windows 97 on it...lol I have given up on her and modern technology.

I had a grand experience the other day with the student support from Pearson for school. After a hour, the dude is arguing with me that the problem is my internet service provider. I said I don't think that is the problem since I have no problems with anything other than when I click the "start assignment" button, nothing happens. He continued to insist that I call them to find out what the problem is. I then ask him what happens when he hits that button and he confesses he didn't hit it because he was afraid it would affect my grade. Now this was the whole reason I was calling. So when I assured him it wouldn't, he clicks on it and says he can confirm nothing is happening and will put in a work order. I swear there is no common sense and thinking with most support any more. They are only capable of clicking through what it tells them to do next on their screen. Maybe you can be cloned Raj?

I'm afraid that a lot of them are just script followers and are afraid to actually think.

My mom is 92 and has had a computer since the way she got online was AOL dialup and her computer had a 486 CPU. I will admit I forced it on her back then as she couldn't imagine what she'd do with it.

She's still using XP, but I think she could manage Windows 7 OK. All she does is her games, email and web browsing. Oh, and she's on FaceBook so she can see and comment on pictures from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Well I have always found that the HELP button doesn't help! I am not good on computers either and bf got me a laptop last year with Windows 8.1 and a touch screen and I finally gave up on it. Touch screens and me do not mix--most of the time the computer doesn't respond to my touch!! So the laptop is in a case and gathering dust in the corner. We will have to go from Windows 7 to 10 on the desktop and I dread it--you might never hear from me again after the transition.
