"Summer 2016"

How is everyone doing so far this summer? Currently we are going through a heat wave. According to my car it was 100 degrees when I got off work today! I am a beach girl but hot is hot and it is too hot for me. Last weekend, I could only take about a 1/2 hour on the beach, so you know it was hot. I know, next winter when it gets below freezing, I will be wishing for this.

I hope all is well.

The local ham radio club that I'm president of had its annual ham radio picnic Sunday at a nearby historic site. Being hams, some of us brought radio equipment and put up antennas. The thermometer in the shade by my equipment showed, at one point, 98.6F with 71% humidity. The good news was that there was a lot of shade and some breeze. Oh, and plenty of ice water. There was also an air conditioned barn for those who didn't want to brave the heat. I managed to talk as far as California with my little battery powered radio, so it was a good day. I say talk, but, by that I mean using Morse code, my preferred way of talking on the radio.

It is kind of hard to 'ham' it up on a ham radio with Morse code--hehe. Even though it was hot in the shade, it sounds like you had a good time.

Hazy, hot and humid here in PA too. Am very thankful for my central air!!!

Took a 2 month break from school this summer (after suffering through stats class) and I am so glad I did it!! I feel human again!! 5 more classes and I am done though a friend is trying to talk me into a master's degree...lol

Been catching up on my netflix and knitting for the most part. Too hot to even go outside and float in my neighbors pool!

It's not so difficult. I learned the code and started using it 58 years ago. It's just another way to "talk". When I was on the road a lot, I had a rig in the car with my key fastened to the console so I could pass the time chatting on the radio with it while I drove on rural Interstates. I didn't do it in heavy traffic. It's safer than texting because you can keep your eyes on the road at all times.

Now that summer is officially over by the calendar and not by the weather--in the 90s here today--how did everyone enjoy it?

It must have been great for me as I wait all winter for it to get here and now it is over. I went to the beach in the outer banks almost every weekend as the boyfriend (fiance) lives there. I always do my reading on the beach and could not finish a book as he was always with me. I did get a chapter or two in while he was fishing. He caught a Pompano and a Mullet this year, so no complaints. I have never eaten a Pompano but he cut it up and fried into little bites that were so yummy.

There is a moratorium on plant closings until April 2017 where all the studies will have to be conducted again--all giving me more time to get closer to retirement. I will have the time in before the age so I would like to stick around another 8 years or so if not for my co-worker that makes the job I enjoy rather challenging. I have worked with people like her before so I know I will survive again. Now that I have been down to 1 dog for the last 2 years, my dog is really spoiled and will not leave my side when home.

As much as I hate to say this, I am looking for cooler weather.

My summer was relatively uneventful which is ok. Now my nest is officially empty so have the place all to myself.

We kept busy as usual, but I'm a little less busy now since ITT closed up Tuesday so I won't be teaching. I'll miss the students and the money, but I will enjoy having two nights a week freed up.
