"HSV1"

I just recently got a positive result for HSV1. It was so random how the woman at the doctor's office called and told me about it. She told me how all my tests were negative and normal except for my Vitamin D levels, I said oh ok, and she went on to say oh and also you tested positive for HSV1. She asked if I ever had an outbreak and I said no, never. She said it was nothing to worry about I must have had it since I was a child. However, I couldn't stop thinking about it or how I got it. I have a 9 year old and a 3 year old, don't they test for all STD's when you are pregnant? And if so why didn't I test positive for it then? I have been looking for answers of some type of hope that this is a false positive which led me to this site and discussion forum. I registered because I am scared and have not been able to stop crying. Although my husband has been nothing but supportive about it, I feel like I can't even kiss my girls anymore....the thought breaks my heart. I keep reading posts and comments about people who had false positives and wonder if this is my case too. I called my doctor's office back today but the woman who gave me my results yesterday was not in and won't be back till tomorrow. So until I can call her tomorrow and find out numbers and whether low or what I am left stressed, sad, confused, and just a mess right now.

STD testing includes tests for herpes. It doesn't unless you specifically ask for it. Something over 80% of adults will test positive for HSV1. Most of those people never have symptoms. It's the virus behind "cold sores" or "fever blisters" and is nothing to worry about at all. It's no big deal. Really. I've got it and have raised 5 kids and am around 10 grandchildren without transmitting it to any of them.. My wife does not have HSV 1 or 2 while I have both. We've been together for 13 years and she still is not infected as of the last time she was tested. Yes we do kiss and have sex.

Please let us know if we can help further...

By the way, the Support forum is a better place to post as it gets more traffic than this forum here.
