"I tested POS for HSV2 but partner is clean, and wants to be safe."

Since my test was POS ( IGG level over 5.0 ) and She is NEG for HSV2, what is the safest way for us to be together as a couple, and also have sex? Taking into consideration both protected and unprotected.

I assume acyclovir is the main antiviral medication to supress Herpes.
I assume a maintenance dosage is 400mg 3x a day; So 1200mg daily.

Where can I get a permanent Rx for acyclovir ?
I don't mind seeing my doctor, but truthfully He's been very hard to work with - and I'm looking for alternatives.
Doctors and Clinics as well, usually say - "Show me your Outbreak / Lesion" - and thankfully, I have rarely had that.
This is going to happen, Year after Year.
I've even considered Canadian pharmacies.

Looking forward to any new developments for a cure, or supression - in the medical and scientific community.

thanks in advance, for any good advice.

The advantage over acyclovir is that it only requires 2 doses a day. It has worked fine for my wife and I for several years. Last time she tested, still negative for both types.

daily suppressive therapy can be acyclovir, valtrex, or famvir. All 3 work about the same. Valtrex has the advantage of just once daily dosing. Famvir and acyclovir need to be taken twice a day for suppressive therapy.

If your provider questions you wanting to be on long term suppressive therapy to help reduce recurrences so less disruptions to your sex life and to help reduce the risk of transmission to a partner, just refer them to this study -http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa035144

There are websites that will sell you acyclovir without a prescription. They tend to over charge and there isn't a good way to be sure you are getting acyclovir. Always safest to just go through your provider and if you have insurance, it will be even cheaper.

That's one feature we're missing.

What I do (and my husband) at our yearly physical we ask the doctor for a year of Valtrex. We haven't had a problem. A yearly physical isn't bad and is usually covered by insurance. Valtrex is now generic and cheaper.

only I get famcyclovir, but it's the same approach. Never a problem.

Hi Rajah, I am on valtrex I GM daily. Would this along with using condoms safeguard my partner. Did you say that your partner is negative for both HSV 1 and 2 though you are positive for both using this approach. Do you have any other tips to safeguard your partner. I am relieved to hear this as I had assumed my sexual health and sex life was over! Thanks again for your comments.

I would caution somewhat that it's not 100%, but seems to have worked for us. I should mention, too, that we are now both in our 70s so there's not quite as much "wild and crazy" sex as it the past for us.
