"fear of autoinoculation"

Hi everyone, It seems ive just recently been infected with coldsores about maybe the end of march beginning of April is when i had my symptoms. at the time i didnt know what it was so I carried on and in early june i got a coldsore for about maybe a week and since then i havent had an outbreak. with that being said, ive had some "close encounters" or situations that i think could cause me to spread my oral herpes to my genitals but im not sure if im just paranoid or what but i have some questions.

1) some sites say yes you can transfer it to other places others say the opposite as well as some say only during the primary outbreak and others say if youve had it for "awhile" but how long is considered awhile, is my length of time considered long enough to have built up antibodies or is it still too early

2) is it safe to assume that since i dont currently have an outbreak and i havent had one in about a month and maybe 2 weeks that my chances of transferring it to my genitals is not possible. like lets say I were to touch my lip for what ever reason and then i so happen to touch my genitals is it likely for the virus to transfer if i didnt initially have a coldsore on my lip

3) is hand sanitizer good enough to destroy the virus if there isn't a restroom near me.

4) if i were to touch a cold sore and then mistakenly briefly touch my hip or my buttcheek or my lower back because i with either adjusting my pants or pulling them up and my hand accidently rubbed it could i spread it to another part of my body or give myself genital herpes

thank you

1. You have had this long enough that your body should have mounted an immune defense against it. The immune response is not localized so you should be pretty well protected.

2. Regular intact skin is a pretty good barrier against infection.

3. Normal soap and water kill the virus. Hand sanitiser works, too, but don't overdo it. They can dry out the skin.

4. Not happening for reason #1

Let us know if we can answer more questions.

thank you so much for replying!

so let me get this straight, about 3-4 months is enough time to build up an immune system defense against herpes... also so since i currently do not have a cold sore i cant transfer it or atleast it would be highly unlikely to?

also i have a hang nail on my thumb and i was eating food which required me to use my hands, im not sure if the hang nail brushed against the side of my lip while eating (having to put food in my mouth) or not but I also do not have a cold sore on my lips at this time either, what is the likelihood that ill end up with herpes whitlow, also during the same day after a while i ended up using the restroom, i did have to pull down my pants and once again my thumb grazed against my leg but it was the thumb with the hangnail, could i transfer herpes that way?

3. "It's very unlikely."

Again, you have had enough time to build up your immune response which will continue to get stronger as time goes by. You are very unlikely to autoinnoculate.. Herpes just doesn't transfer that easily.

My advice above stands... Relax.
