"New B"
I was recently diagnosed with HSV 1 and 2 in January of 2017. It was a great way to start the new year (sarcasm). I'm 21 years old as you can imagine I was devastated I sat in the shower and cried for a good hour. It's been really hard to cope with this, specially considering that I don't talk to anyone about my true feelings. My mom and brother know along with a few close friends but it just feels like a burden talking to them about it.

I have so many questions but my most important one right now is whether I should seek a treatment method or not. I've read how awful some of the medication side effects can be like hair loss or liver damage. Is it absolutely necessary to take antiviral medication for it or can I just do natural remedies to help boost my immune system?

I haven't brokeout since the first time I noticed I had contracted it. I did notice yellowing in the inside of my mouth like on the roof, and the back of my throat. Does this come with the herpes virus? And if so does that make me contagious?

There is a fair amount of scare tactics being used on the part of folks selling alternative (ineffective) treatments for herpes. The antiviral meds have a very long history of being safe to use. I, personally, have used famvir for many years daily with no ill effects. Valtrex is similar and the older acyclovir has the longest history.

Your throat symptoms do not sound to me like herpes related.
