"Transmission of HSV 2 to someone with HSV-1"

   Hello
I have had Genital Herpes for almost 11 years. I am not sure if I have type 1 or 2.

I am in a new relationship, and he has HSV-1 ( Cold sores)
What is the probability of me giving him HSV-2 orally or via genitals?

Well if you do not know which type of HSV you have after 11 years, it might be time to find out. An Igg blood test can be done and the results are pretty reliable.

Having HSVII will protect you from getting HSVI but not the other way around. His HSVI WILL NOT prevent him from getting your HSVII if this is what in fact you do have. Having HSVII does not make you contagious 24/7 either because we do not shed the virus 24/7. If you have HSVI and he does also then you do not have to worry about getting his HSVI because you both share the same virus. After all this, don't you think it would be in your best interest to know your type?

My personal experience is that I had oral HSV from childhood. It did not prevent me from getting HSV2 as an adult.
